1993 XLT Ignition Lock set
Hello, my 1993 XLT ignition Lock set broke at the top portion. Key still goes in and comes out but key turns freely and will not turn off truck. Is replacing this lock set a job for pros or can this be done by DIYer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If i remember correrctly, it's pretty simple, but I'm not sure how well it will work with the broken cylinder.
Take off the bottom half of the plastic cover between the steering wheel and dash. There should be some screws on the bottom that hold the 2 halves together
Turn the key back to the accessory position.
There should be a small hole in the housing beneath the cylinder.
Insert a small screwdriver or something similar into the hole. You'll be pushing up on a retainer pin that comes out of the cylinder and into the housing.
Pull out the cylinder.
I don't remember for sure, but your truck may have a rod that goes from the cylinder, down the top of the steering column to a switch. If you have that rod, it may have come unhooked at one end.

Well, while replacing the ignition switch, I noticed that the hole that the ignition switch pin(?) goes into was moving freely. I am sure this sliding shroud with the hole was not supposed to be sliding up and down freely. Is this a major problem? I don"t even know what this part is but it is the portion on the steering column where the pin coming out of the ignition switch goes into. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the plastic shroud with the hole is moving. The ignition switch actuator pin goes into this hole. I am not sure what the part is called, maybe the lock/column ***'y. When I replaced the ignition switch, I noticed that this piece was moving freely and I had to line up the hole before I could attach the ignition switch, Nevertheless, the lock cylinder still fails to work properly. (still spins freely and will not start truck). I need someone who really knows f150's and so I don't want to take it to a dealer. In the meantime I am starting the truck manually by using the ignition switch.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. It's been a while since I had a 96 and I've had 3 newer models since. Sometimes I get them confused. Hope you get it figured out.

Hello, I need some help. My truck's ignition lock set is not working properly. Key just turns but does not engage at all. Will not turn off/on truck. Purchased new lock set and ignition switch but problem still present. What else do I need to replace for this repair?
