That's a lower intake manifold. See the semi circle notch between where the ECT and temp gauge switch are indicated? That's where the distributor would sit.

yes, i have researched. which is why i need specifics before i start ****ing with ****. i know what grounding is too but im not gonna touch any wiring like that on a vehicle unless i know 100000% sure that the person giving me the information is right
In the broad sense a mustang is a mustang. That's why they call them mustangs. You're on an f150 site asking about an f250. Like I already said, engine aside, it's the principle. Similar equipment, different vehicle. There is only one super duty section on this site in the late model area.

If someone gives an option and you aren't sure about it, then you look that up to. Quick search of "how to test a car temp gauge" gave me a link to ehow that said this in the answer

Strip 3/8 inch of insulation from either end of a 3-foot jumper wire and twist the strands together tightly. Have an assistant turn the ignition key to the "On" position, but do not start the car. Plug one end of your jumper wire into the terminal in the wiring harness. If you have a one-wire harness, touch the other end of your jumper lead to the negative battery terminal.

3 seconds got me that.

Touching it to the neg terminal grounds it. Touching it to pretty much any bare metal should ground it. Your engine is grounded to the frame so touching it to a bare spot on the block should ground it.

You don't just unplug it and plug it back in, you have to ground it to test it. So find some wire or something that will work and ground the unplugged wire to your negative battery terminal. Once its grounded look at your gauge.

Is it his truck or yours. If it yours then do whatever you want. You've been told how to test it. Do it yourself for free or pay someone else to do it. If its his then why are you even working on it, especially if he wouldn't let you do a simple test that HAS to be done.
