You should be able to get it by cutting a section of the housing off of the braided wire (from handle to the box) and using some needle nose vise-grips to grab and pull the wire. This should move the actuator and pull the rod to unlatch the door.

4 days later I finally got it open! The lever that works the lock from inside was broken off, so was the one from the outside handle, and the cable was melted too badly to do anything with. I finally got it by using a pair of needle nosed pliers on the mechanism itself.
