Lightbulb Full Led Gauge cluster Converson (Any color led)

Recently Ive upgraded my Gauge cluster from the OEM green to War room red. and wanted to pass along the info so you can Change your dash cluster to any color led you want

You will need:
14 194 Leds (any color)
set of hex keys (star keys)
small pry bar
exacto knife or other sharp scraping tool

First step is to remove the trim to gain access to the 2 hex bolts for the dash bezel.

second step is to remove the dash bezel being careful to remove the fuel switch wiring.(even if you have a single tank its there)

third step Remove the 4 hex keys located in the corner of the cluster then careful remove cluster by pulling it out and tiping it back (Automatics remove the gear selector before removal)

fourth step Remove the headlight **** by using a small pry tool to push the flat pin forward and pulling it out then Remove the 3 wire plugs in the back of the gauge cluster being sure not to damage them or the printed circuit.

Lightbulb Continued:

Continued:
fifth step remove the clear plastic cover along with the black plastic cover to gain access to the gauges.

sixth step carefully pry up the gauges they normally will pop right out.

seventh step using a knives or other flat pry tool use it to pull carefully up on the needles (you can use a piece of paper to protect the front black if your worried about scrapping it)

eight step using the same pry tool carefully peel and pry up the front face of the gauges until there off, For the speedometer you will need to pull out the two bump stops as well.

ninth step flip the black plastic face of each gauge and scrap off the green and white paint/film carefully down to the clear plastic making sure not to go to deep and scratch the plastic much.

tenth step re attach the black faces of the gauges using super glue or other adhesive. make sure to align them properly for accurate readings as well as light capability.

eleventh step remove the old filament style bulbs and add your choice of 194 Leds.
twelfth step follow steps six thru one to finish instal.

helpful tip its always good to have something to hold the bolts for you

Default Finished product

I used Red 194 leds for my dash. You can use any color you like they even sell multi color changing ones if you want

(I did not scratch off the spedometers numbers or most of the arch because i wanted a minimlistic style at night. you can scrape off the numbers to have them visible if you like)
(added note, for the needles scrape off the small clear green tinted plastic above and below each needle hole for the red to show though them)

No red light does not go thru anything but red or white film tint. and during the day they look factory. you can get green leds or blue leds and just put them in and it will show thru the blue light is close to the same hue so it will shine thru some.

I'm gonna stick with green since it's my favorite color.. When I go to the parts store do I buy green bulbs or just regular replacement bulbs since the cluster has the green tint?

Regular white bulbs they dont sell green ones. I would recomend swapping out all of them though considering there all the same age im sure. 5 total for the gauge cluster not including the other wanring lights.

Thanks for the how-to.

Just curious...when the instrument panel lamps are replaced with LEDs, are they dimmable?

No they are not however you can Purchase a dimmer offline that would be compatable with leds Superbrightled.com has a few that would work for it.
