It's not the most expensive or well put together setup I could have came up with, but like I said previously, I'm not looking for competition level equipment. I wanted something that would sound good for a 20 year old truck. Almost always you are going to need to run subs with an amp. Subs take a lot of power to move the speaker, otherwise you aren't going to get hardly any work out of the speaker. You can also power your regular door and kick panel speakers from an amp. People claim better quality sound, but I have never hooked mine up through an amp, only the factory speaker wires, but maybe someday.

I'm currently building another new sub box console, so I don't have any subs in right now, and I hate it. I am switching out the 2 10" CVTs for a single Kicker 15" CVX.

I have seen those headliners, and honestly, if I had enough money to blow on something like that, I might go for it. My only wish is that they would offer the headliners without the speakers already in them. It would only cost like 100-150 then I think.

I agree, those speakers probably suck anyway. I think that would be a cool set up with some component speakers in the front corners.

And thanks, I know that's a stupid question but my headunit has a "built in pre amp" and I don't know enough about them to know if I still needed an amp or if that negated the need for one. Obviously powerful set ups would need one but I wasn't sure for one MAYBE two shallow subs.

Built in preamp output* which is basically a fancy way of saying your headunit comes with the Rca outputs required to hook up amps nowadays. If you plan on running a subwoofer, you will need an amp unless you buy a "powered sub". 98 percent of headunits comes from the factory with four channels for your door speakers and one or two sets of rca (preamp) outputs so you can run one or two amps, most people who use both sets have one set up for an amp and subs and use tbe second one to run an amp with speakers that need more power to work like a set of 6x9s.
