Default 1994 F150 radio

I'm looking to replace the radio in my 1994 F150. It has the stock radio and i want one with a cd player and a aux in input for my ipod. What is a good and easy to install radio? And what adapters will i need for the electrical. I'm also going to install new speakers (Pioneer Ts-a1685r 6.5" 4-Way Speakers and Pioneer TS-A6885R 6" x 8" 4-Way 350W Speakers) what adapters will i need for those as well?

Thanks
Dan

There are so many stereo Head Units out there, that it is really hard to suggest anything that you would easily be able to find, plus a lot of what people use are old and no longer in stock even if you did want it. But Basically, any single DIN Head Unit should work.

As for what you need: For my 95, I was able to buy an adapter plug from Walmart that just plugs into the factory harness, and has open wires for you to wire into your new Head Unit. I highly suggest this so you are not hacking your factory harness up, and it allows you to plug your factory stereo back in if you ever had the desire to do so.

For the speakers, you aren't going to need any adapters.. They are going to be wired the same exact way as the stock speakers are. Positive to Positive; Negative to Negative.

***NOTE*** - I don't think 6.5" speakers fit perfectly into the doors, and I remember grinding out my door speaker hole just slightly, and routing new screw holes to get the speaker to fit. It was a Kicker KS65 speaker.

Replacing a head unit in these trucks is one of the easiest of any vehicle. Any standard 1 din radio will work. Buy a harness for the install, new radio should have same color wires as the harness and you can splice the harness to radio, plug in and have good sound. When I did this I wanted a radio that would give me the option to change the color of the radio to match the green in the dash of the f-150. I did a low cost upgrade and to be honest it sounds excellent. I bought a cd/hd radio jvc, nothing special, infinity kappa speakers for the ones in back and some foam baffles to help with sound. I installed the stereo and rear speakers while I was waiting for the door speakers to arrive, took 15 minutes to install the stereo and about a half hour to do the rear speakers, they sell a harness for the rear speakers also on amazon. this sounded so good, I never even replaced the door speakers. I'm not sure if it is because its a single cab and less area, but sounds great and I have a high end system in my other cars and still think this setup sounds good. I did buy a cheap oem truck box with a built in amp..think it was supposed to be for a Toyota Tacoma but was under $100 and added great bass In the space. I paid around $90 for the hd radio/cd jvc, and under 100 for the infinity kappas.

I agree with how easy it is. The stock stereo is so easy to pull out, and you don't have to take apart a bunch of trim panels that surround it like many other vehicles require when switching out the stereo. After I bought the harness adapter for the stereo, I made sure it fit into the factory harness connector, then took it back out and soldered all of the wires to my new Sony XPlod Stereo. Like rotwiler said, the colors should all be the same, so it's easy to put them together.

Like rotwiler, I replaced all of my stock speakers with aftermarket speakers at the same time as the stereo. In case you were wondering, the front door speakers are 6.5, and the rear kick panels are 6x8, (in my single cab). Like I said before, and dependent upon the (aftermarket) speaker you decide to purchase; some grinding of the speaker mount hole may be required for the doors. I used the Kicker KS65, and KS68 speakers, wired into the factory wires; no amp.

Also, if you are looking for bass, with the bench seat (regular cab) , I had put 2 Kicker 10" CVT (shallow mounts) subwoofers in a custom box, but could have easily fit 4 12" if I tried.

I just seen "wally-world.com" had a Pioneer stereo that was iPod compliant, two 6-1/2" speakers and two 6x9" speakers for 99$. That's Will be a nice cheap combo, at least nicer than stockers, for the F150. Speakers were Pioneer also.

Crutchfield has a lot of information available on its site.

I got a factory refurbished Dvd with a flip out screen (Dual XDVD3101) from audiosavings.com It was like $120 shipped. It was easy to hook up, I bought a regular harness from walmart. Just match the wires up to the harness with the diagram in the manual and everything will work. Tape off the extas (some you wont need, new tech old truck). Made a blue screen bypass module out of a rocker switch and a RL44 relay because i wanted to watch movies and wouldn't dare touch the parking brake. I used an old bracket with the locks built into it to hold it in the dash. Crutchfield is another good way to go. They send everything you need, harness, keys, mounting kit, and detailed installation instructions for free when you buy from them.

I also have 5 1/4 in. Kicker door speakers (no grinding), 6x8 Kickers in the pillars, a 2 ch. 500 watt Hifonics Zeus amp under the center console and two Kicker Cvt shallow 8's in a custom camo box that I made that sits right behind the center console and still gives room for two people to sit in the back seat of the supercab.

If you have music on something that is Bluetooth compatible, like a phone or mp3 player, I would really suggest getting a head unit that is also Bluetooth compatible. It is a great feature to have. I jump in my truck and it will automatically start playing music off of my phone. No wires to hook up and it sounds great. Also can change the music from the head unit.

To answer your question(s):

Front speakers are 6.5", rears are 6x8", and the deck is a standard "single DIN"

Rears are easy as pie, remove grills, 4 screws, cut wires, splice, put in.

Fronts require you to remove the door panel, not hard, dont pull too much or you will break the tabs.

Deck is simple, pull trim and it becomes very obvious. You can also get most places to pull the deck with "keys" if you ask and tip nicely.

You need 2 things to install a deck, a "dash kit" and a "wiring harness".

Wire harness, and its clip out clip in. The antenna can get fun.

A good cheap aux deck will run you under 100 bucks. same for 4 speakers. a 200 buck non factory system will blow 85% of people away. no amps, no subs, just decent equipment.

I saw somebody mentioned a pioneer lot from Walmart with 6x9s. Will 6x9s fit in the back?
