Default 1993 Inside door handle doesn't work just snaps the handle every time

Hi there,

So shortly after buying my F150 the door handle snapped, and at first I just thought the plastic was brittle since I live in the desert. However I went to autozone and bought another. And after installing that, Soon as I went to test it the thing snapped off. So I'm thinking it's the actual mechanism, or cable thing I'm not quite sure.

So I was wondering if anyone knew the part to order as I don't really want to change the whole thing if it's not necessary. Also winding the window down and sticking my hand out the window everytime I get out is rather annoying!!

Thanks
Epic
Also the outer door handle works just fine.

Generally speaking the failure is usually the door panel that the mechanism is attached to. The metal becomes fatigued and stretches, thus shortening the cable and adding play making it hard to open. I myself removed the mechanism and had a friend straighten out the metal and tack a new piece underneath to reinforce the area. We redrilled a hole and used a bolt and nut to hold the mechanism in place. What also helped is that I took the latch out, cleaned it well, and lubricated it. The years of grime makes it harder to pull thus causing the metal fatigue. A new cable wouldn't hurt either.

All the parts could be found on LMC.com.

Also the replacement handles that Dorman makes are pretty cheap and snap easily. I went through 4 of them.

Hi,
Thanks for the response so I replaced the door latch cable this weekend and what a bi*** lol putting it all back together! Now my door handle works which is awesome however the locks are messed up. If I push the lock down and close the door the key for the door doesn't work. I have to physically take the door panel off and play with the latch. Also the actual turning the key in the lock doesn't really work. If anyone could explain why or show a pic of the correct assembly inside the door that would be great. As now I can't lock my door and here in Vegas that's a bad thing!

If the key worked before, it probably isn't hooked up right or popped off. All those little rods are made to go in one way. I had that problem when I was putting mine back together once and it was the rod to the key that came off. If you google the lock assembly for your truck, I would think pictures would come up. I doubt someone is going to take there truck apart to get a picture unless they have a parts truck.

If the passenger side door works like it's supposed to then pull the door panel off and make the drivers side look exactly the same. There's gotta be something like one of those rods that looks like it's hooked up right but is binding.
