its not attached to anything on the inside of the cab either.

What year did the plate start showing. I looked at mine (87 reg cab LB) and didn't see anything...

It's dark out and hard to see, but here you go. I only used 3 self tappers, though I used 4, but it pulled my bed front back in line perfectly.

It's all welded up with the side rails now and you cannot see the front of the actual bed rail. Prior to making this fix, you could clearly see the front of the bed pressed up against the cab. Holy cow........I need to wash the old girl!

My rail doesn't touch the cab, the wall does.

That doesn't surprise me Sean! Lol. I gotta say, I really like my angle iron bed rails. Man these things are tough!

I've had over 70 of these trucks over the last 25 years and probably 5 of them had this bracket. One of them had a bag in the glove box with a strap with a metal clip on it. The instructions showed how to install it on the bracket pictured above. It looped around the narrow notches in the middle of the inside bracket. You then had a safe anchor for a child seat. I can only tell you what I seen......

That doesn't sound right to me, but much more believable now.
