Default Frame Crack Repair?

Hi,

1st off this truck is just a winter/trash haulin beater truck. I noticed a crack on the frame at the passenger side front and wanted to know that can be repaired? Most body shop won't touch it ''liability ". If it can, what would be the cheapest route?

Grind out the crack. Drill out the ends of the crack to stop it from spreading. Weld up the crack. Weld on a fish plate. Done, stronger than new.

Ok, drill a hole slightly bigger then the crack on both ends? Does the grinding need to v shaped and what size of steel needs to be used?

Yes, yes, 1/8th plate, larger than crack - length and width wise. Based on the pic, you might get away with a short bit of angle.

If you are battling rust you'll need to cut out the compromised area but the repair would be the same. Weld in repair section then fish plate over it.

K, will 3/16 - 1/4 size of Carbon Steel work? Also, Would a cheap Mig welder work or what would you recommend?

You can use a Mig if you prep it right and keep the heat right. For replacement you need same gauge as frame. For plating you can use whatever you are comfortable with, 1/4 plate is overkill IMO.

Not sure. Mic it or ask a frame repair shop.
