Default Transmission linkage

so I got my e40d trans rebuilt. So I got the trans in. Filled it up checked it, took it down the street, when I brought it back there was nothing in the column shift lever, got down and the linkage came off (mine just slides on) so I try and put it back on but then it thinks park is drive. So I get the transmission in park and the column saying its in park, I'll throw it in reverse no problem, then when I put it in drive it kinda jerks hard but then it takes off fine. Going up to like 40 mph it seems like it doesn't wanna shift and rpms just stay above 2k. When I go to park it the same thing happens and it thinks park and every other gear is drive and I have to get underneath to put it in park by the linkage. Any ideas to what's going on? Thanks for any help!

Are you sure the plug is connected right above where the shift cable hooks in?

Are you sure your selector is adjusted properly with your mlps? It kinda sounds like when you drive you may be in second and not drive. Do you ever feel a gear shift? I would put the truck in park down at the transmission, and see where the selector is. If it's showing park, then use it to go into reverse, neutral , drive, second, and first. Make sure you know the teams went into the desired gear, if not adjust your selector until it aligns properly.

Take the plastic off the column, you should see a cable running from your gauge cluster from the needle that shows park, reverse, ect. I cant remember how its set up, but I seem to remember a gear being there to adjust in line with the cable or something. Whatever it was it was obvious it was the adjustment. Just put truck in park, adjust the selector as needed, and repeat for all gear until you get a happy medium for all.

There's a hole you shove a piece of stiff wire in to in the bottom of the ignition part of the column. Stick the key in, turn it on and use the wire to release the key tumbler.
But you don't have to to get at the adjuster.
Take the lower plastic off and it's on the side of the column closest to the heater controls.
You also want to check the 2 torx bolts that bolt on to the firewall end of your shift actuator tube. They have a tendency to come loose.

You can see the shift actuator bracket and the 2 bolts in these pictures.
