Okay, this might sound odd, but I had a similar problem. Oil pressure would drop to nil, often when stopped at a light. Would pick back up when driving. Starter took a crap on me, changed that out, boom, oil pressure back in the normal at all times.

That is weird Cpt! Maybe I should get a new starter! I've noticed that there are several ground wires that are disconnected and I connect em as I find them but I'm guessing this truck has had wiring issues in the past. I thought maybe it was an electrical problem so I wired the new gauge directly to the battery but it shows the same. It drops to nil at a stop while in gear. The odd thing is that if it didn't have a gauge I'd never suspect a problem because it runs just fine and doesn't make any noise. I'm trying to do everything I can before I actually start pulling the engine. I can see it now... Pull the engine, spend a bunch of cash and time rebuilding it, put it back in and get the same reading because of some dumb wire hanging loose.

Might have something to do with an insufficient ground. That's my thought.

I'm starting to think that as well. I noticed that an obvious ground wire to the engine was disconnected so I just found a bolt and attached it there. Maybe it's not the best place for a ground so I'll look around and find something on the block and see if that helps at all.

Just in case you didn't know, these trucks respond extremely well to improved grounds.

I upgraded all of the ground cables on my truck to 4 gauge and it made a huge difference with the electronics (lights, turn signals, etc.) from the upgraded body grounds and my idle was a tad bit smoother as well from the upgraded engine grounds.

You really need to hook up a manual guage and see what it is doing. The cost of a guage is cheap compared to spending thousands on a rebuild when you never needed it.
