Short answer:

1. If yours is a gas model transmission you need a gas model replacement. (Some difference in valve body calibration and solenoid packs are different too; Gas vs Diesel).
2. 95-97 should work but, you will need to verify where the speed-o-pickup is located (If in tailhousing you need same. If in differential, then not concern. If 4x4 any 95-97 from a truck will work providing you stay same Gas-->Gas or Diesel --> Diesel).

In 95 Ford moved diodes (Spike Protection) form the solenoid pack to the Computer. So you need a 95-97. 98 had more calibration changes and dual configuration TCC control in pump, Gas or Diesel). You can't tell by looking at the transmission how the 98 TCC is configured.

Also, some 98 E4ODs are On/OFF TCC Control or PWM (variable) TCC Control. So I recommend staying away from 98 models.

Make sure Case RF-F5 or RF-F6 & Pump Rough Forge numbers is RF-F5xx then match speed-o-pickup as necessary and you should be ready to rock.

Replace front pump seal & visually inspect while seal is out that pump bushing has not moved out of its seat or spun and adjust Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS).

If you have a part number from a 95-97 E4OD post it here and I will cross-reference it for you.

And the Shameful plug, take a look at my Free E4OD Free Tips eBook (online version) for more info and pics for the E4OD transmission:

Let us know what you end up doing and if you have additional questions or concerns.

In 95 many updates were also done to make the E4OD more reliable and stronger, for example, pump - higher volume; replaced bushing in Center Support with a roller bearing; revised input shaft that now extends farther in to the

I would suspect the 2 automatic trans for 95 5.8 would be 4x2 & 4x4.

Your ID F5UP-DB =

FORD PICKUP F150 SERIES 95 A.T., 4x2, E4OD, 8-351 (5.8L)

Is your Seed-o-Pickup in your E4OD Tailhousing or Top of Rear Differential ?

Staring in 93 ford used magnetic pickup for the speedometer, however, then in (I believe) 96 they went back to Mechanical gear speed-o-meters.

If your speed-o-pickup is in the differential then any 5.8 E4OD will work. However, you want one out of a F150-F250 and not like a motorhome as their is different calibration.

Another thing to check is the Cooler Line Size, some models are 5/16" and some are 3/8" size. You will need to switch out the correct line size fittings for your truck.

I hope this helps.

Speed sensor is in the differential but looked like there was a place for one in the trans but is blocked off,so as long as its for a 5.8 2wd it will work but would a 300 or 302 work too.

I found one from a 97 E250 van and the number is F7UP-CD,the last 2 letters were hard to read so not sure. The fittings are different at the cooler lines and has a tube that connects both so can that be removed and it does look like it has the larger coolant lines,I found two the the U pull yard wth the same number as mine but not looking forward to pulling and were not marked if ran and drove.

This trans that supposively came from a 97 had the wrong case number and i noticed a few differences so still on the hunt, the local U pull yard has two but they punch a hole in the pan to drain plus they smashed the bottom of the pans hauling with the fork lift and they were not marked if they ran and were drivable so I think I am going to pass on them.
