1994 f-350 4 X 4, crew cab, 7.3 IDI Turbo, stock other than Banks exhaust, K & N air filter. Had tranny rebuilt 3 yrs 20K miles ago. AFter 300 miles on Interstate, no hi temp, no fluid loss, no hi speed (under 65 mph), no load, tranny began slipping or over reving during & after shifts.
Stopped immediately & had it towed.
Reckon I just wore out or burned up the clutches?
What rebuild kit do I need for moderate loads, less than 3000#'s @ 60 mph, little off road use, mostly around town driving?

Rebuild kit should not matter. But very much worth it. My guess who ever rebuilt it did not do some thing right. A stock rebuild should hold power for sometime. I had a 97 power stroke that had 120hp over stock. Very fun to drive. Tranny was stock.

You need to have it rebuilt by a really honest mechanic and buy the beefiest components you get. My old boss went through 2 trans for the same truck in 2 years using stock kits with no real load on the truck. He finally coughed up a kidney at Suncoast for like $3200 for a quality unit. He's run it 70,000 miles in 2 years without a hiccup. 460 club dually 4x4...driven hard!
Those trucks are SOOO heavy! You need a beast of aTrans to move it around.
