Default E40D Shifts hard

Hey folks, new here...I have a 94 F150 4x4 extended cab XLT with the 5.0 EFI. I am having trouble at times with the shifting in the tranny. It will shift really hard into second gear every now and then. I also have a problem with my speedometer...it just stops working sometimes. Everything else works on it, but the speedo. The truck runs great...204K miles....no oil leaks. Just wanting to give it some TLC and get it back to tip top shape. Any help is appriciated.

I'd start with the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the rest axle. If that's not it, it might be the PSOM.

Default VSS

I have already replaced the ABS/VSS sensor....issue seems to be fixed. I did want to ask if it is normal for the speedo to bounce when the speed of the truck gets above 50-55 mph?

Doesn't on mine, could be a pin loose in the connector or lightly damaged wires.

No it's not normal. Usually indicates a VSS or PSOM problem. Did you use a motorcraft VSS ?
