crankshaft position sensor 1996 f150 straight 6

It's a Canadian thing eh!
I think you mean the misfire sensor, it on the front of the engine beside the crankshaft on the timing cover. Its only job is to tell the PCM if a misfire happens when the pulse signal it picks up slows down so it sorta works like a crankshaft position sensor.

Crankshaft / Misfire Sensor
The Crankshaft Position Sensor (or MIsfire sensor) sure can make a difference in how one runs! I had a bad
one & like to have never figured it out!!
Code reader showed misfire on cylinder 6. & a P0118 (Engine Temp Control Sensor)
Started with plugs, wires, dist cap & rotor. Then O2 sensor code (Bank 2 Sensor 2), replaced O2 sensor by cat
converter. STill no better!!
STumbling, buck jumping in hi gear when mash on gas!!
Put on smoke machine, no vac leaks, fuel press good, SOOOOO
I finally changed out Cam postion Sensor, WHOW! Then it threw a P0385, crankshaft sensor!!!
Changed it out & now truck runs fine!!
Now why did my Matco $150 code reader find that at first???
I spend $500 on parts!! SOmetimes "chasing codes" can be frustrating & a waste of time & money!!
