Ever figure this out? This is EXACTLY the same problem I'm having. Ticking coming from transmission area only in park (and occasionally very low speeds). Put it in gear and it goes away completely. Clicking does vary slightly as the RPMs come down during idle right after cranking it. It almost sounds like the solenoid that's on top of the transmission by the transfer case.

No, unfortunately it's still ticking away, I've kinda given up on it, it seems to get worse then better, then worse, and it just seems to have two limits it bounces between if you know what I mean. It never gets worse than a certain point, so in my mind it isn't getting worse. I drive it all over with no issues no far, but watch whatever it is break 5 hours from home. I don't think it will though. When did yours start making the noise?

I honestly don't remember it ticking when I bought it. I used 4x4 high and low about two weeks after buying it and noticed around then because I had a slight leak around the transmission. I put it in neutral last night and noticed it does it then too. It's like whenever the transmission isn't in gear, it makes the sounds. But, by would idle RPMs affect it while it's in park?

It would have to be something that moves with engine rpm, something like thrust bearings could alternate with rpms, but it doesn't sound quite like what I'm experiencing. But I checked them anyway and they are fine. So, I'm going to eventually read up on how the transmission works, just have t had time yet. Does yours do it in drive while idling off the brake at say 6 mph in 1st? What transmission do you have?

I have the E4OD. It will sometimes barely do it as I roll forward, but most of the time, it instantly stops whenever I put it in drive or reverse though.

Yea, mine instantly stops in any drive gear as well when I'm stopped, but it does it moving slow when not under torque it seems, I can hear it passing by a wall or curve.

Here is my most recent vid from a couple months ago of the sound, it's not always this bad though.

Yep! That's it! Sounds like it's coming from the torque converter.
