I'm just pulling the transmission out Saturday. Any recommendations on transmission fluid? I've been running valvoline for a year, and about 21,000 miles. I've heard good things from valvoline maxlife. Is it any better?

Yes, I run it in an E4OD. When I first bought my truck, I tried cheap store brand fluids in my transmission twice (changed fluid in the pan and torque converter) and it shifted like crap. I pretty much thought I needed a new trans.
As a last resort, I tried Maxlife and the truck shifted so smoothly I thought it wasn't shifting at first. It literally shifts as smooth as a luxury car. So, I basically went from thinking I needed a transmission to having an ultra smooth transmission.
I can't say enough positive things about it. I'm sold on it.

Awesome. Mine shifts pretty good, I have regular valvoline mixed with oreillys brand because I forgot which one I put in there. I'm excited to see how much better it will shift with maxlife in it.

It is really good stuff. It is synthetic, but they dont advertise it as such. It is listed on their product info page as synthetic.
I noticed that I'm starting to see it pop up at Walmart for a relatively low price.
I'll be rebuilding/upgrading my E4OD within the next year or so and I'm curious as to how it will perform then. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all with the stuff in all honesty though.

Yea, it's $18 a gallon here at Walmart. I like that price, especially since I considered redline at $50 per gallon, and needing 5 gallons that's a bit pricy. The maxlife hardly cost more then house brand fluids here. I think I'm going with maxlife.
