Default 95 f150 5.8 4x4

Bought this truck on a steal. $1000. Lady said it wouldn't shift out of 1st. Did some research, replaced the VSS started shifting fine in the neighborhood. Took it out to the main road and the truck can't decide to stay it overdrive or 3rd. The speedo is jumping alot after 25. Looked at alot of threads and have alot of options to try but was hoping to find a pinpoint problem. Giving that the VSS was the factory one I'm planning on going thru all the stuff I've read and clean out this and clean out that.

Was just hoping to get it where I could drive it down the road to loosen all the gremlins and demons out so I can fix them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had a problem with my truck not shifting once it warmed up. It was the throttle pos. sensor. I took it to a transmission shop and their scantool pinpointed the problem. MY $200 scantool would not pick it up.

Could be related to the VSS, VSS wiring, tone ring in the diff, floating metal particles in the diff oil, or the PSOM in the dash. Or as ferb said, the TPS can cause shifting issues among other things.
Apparently Motorcraft is the way to go if replacing the VSS.
