'93 I-6 takes forever to heat up
As the title says, I have a '93 I-6 forever to heat up even when in warm weather.
It wasn't a problem in the summer but sucks now.
Shows cold on the gauge and blows cold air on heat/defrost.
It is full of coolant and has a thermostat. Thermostat may be faulty but there is one installed.
There is a vacuum canister on the far left side of the firewall near the hood hinge that is not connected. Does this control the water supply for the heater core?
Ideas on why the engine would be real slow to heat up? Anyone else have a similar problem?
Thanks,

Most common thermostat failure is to not fully close, so it's always letting coolant flow. Doesn't have to be a big gap when not fully seating, it can be a 1/16 of an inch and cause slow warm up.

My truck would never get off the cold mark in the winter making for very little heat, my dad said did that ever since it was new. As others stated above it was the thermostat stuck open always flowing coolant. Replaced thermostat and it warms right up, just make sure the thermostat is sitting in the recessed part of the housing or else you'll crack the housing, ask me how I know.

Hmmm wonder how you did know that. Lol
I broke mine at 8:45 at night. Ran in the house and called Oreilly and the manager stayed over for me to get my neighbor to take me there and buy the last one he had in stock. I was in PANIC Mode for work the next morning.
