Need Help troubleshooting issue.
Hello and thanks in advance for any help on this issue.
I have a 1993 F150 Ext cab flareside 4x4
-302
-AOD-E trans
-113,XXX
What the truck is doing.
issue is most noticeable in overdrive at low rpm's (1500-1800 rpm), when im on flat ground cruising in overdrive there is no problem but when I climb any kind grade and the truck starts to lug or bog down it studders or misses before downshifting. Also when towing or climbing a steep grade I get some pinging/spark knock
also on occasion after truck is warmed up and ive drove to town, it will idle up to 1500 rpm and stay there until I shut the truck off and turn it back on and it idles back down to 700-800 rpm.
what I've done so far:
-plugs, wires, accel cap and rotor, fresh trans fluid & filter.
I have a feeling this timing/sensor/or egr related was thinking of disconnecting my spout plug on distributor to see if that helps?
any input?
Thanks!

I like this. Asking for help respectfully, starting your own thread to do it, giving pertinent info about your truck, and good description of symptoms.
Anyway, pull codes and see what it tells you. It's always good to start there. If/when you come back to share what you get, if all you get is a system pass code tell us you got a system pass. Don't say you didn't get any codes unless you got absolutely no codes at all, not even system pass.

Thanks! I do not have a check engine light, does that mean I still could have codes? Also all the auto parts stores around here only scan obd2 for whatever reason. Do I have to buy a scanner or is there a different way?

Thought you might ask that, yes. Is the light not on or does it not work? There's a sticky in here that says how to pull codes manually but your CEL (check engine light) needs to be working so you can count light flashes. You could also buy an obd1 scanner. I'll look up some links for you real quick.

Ok, so I swung in my buddies shop on my lunch break he had a obd1 scanner, he hooked it up and ran it with the truck off and on. Got no codes he said system good. So I tracked down that spout connector on a hunch and unplugged it. No more stutter at all or ping, however it idled like crap and was a noticeable loss of power. I plugged it back in for the time being. What should my next step be? That would mean it's a timing issue correct? If I remember correctly that little plug lets the computer control the timing and with it unplugged it runs at a set timing.
