3.55 gears

Think of it like this. Riding a bike on flat land you can use a higher gear which would allow you to pedal slower and work less to go faster. What gear you select will be directly proportional to how strong your legs are ( torque) and at what speed you want to turn your legs (rpm) you go to0 high (numerically low) and you would have to work harder to accelerate, tow, and even if your way too high, it would be harder to maintain a higher speed. There is a golden range for every speed, application, intended use, ect. The 4.9 does not like revving, so you don't want to go with as low of a gear (numerically high) as you would with the 302, 351, or even 460. The 300 peaks torque at the lowest rpm of all engines available I. Our trucks, and it won't rev too high. Revving above peak torque on the highway is wasteful. So I would go with a gear that revs you at peak tourqe or right belowe it.

With 8 clutches and plates, you may be able to go more aggressive. Maybe something like Friction, Solid, Friction, Solid, Friction, Solid, Friction, Solid. On each side. But I'd research it before doing it.

I have 3.55's in my 2WD. Great for pulling and such, but sucks on the highway. I run the stock 235/75R15 and at 70mph I'm at 3000rpm!!! It would help if I had OD, but I have the c6 trans.

Yea, no o/d sucks. I pull in overdrive at 70 mph at 2150 rpms, it rarely drops a gear for hills, but if it does I have plenty more power at ~ 3100 rpms. My overdrive at highway speeds drops my rpms about 1,000

IMO 33's tire is too tall for 3.55 gear. My 1995 with 3.55/4x4/302/Auto with 32's looks Great and rugged. Fills the wheel well nicely. But, when driving and the road begins to incline, the truck feels low on power and pops out of OverDrive. It needs the extra power (or more torque)to maintain speed.
Try this link from TacomaWorld to compare stock tire vs oversized. It helped me:
