Question 1994 F160 inline 6. Shoud I rebuild or replace?

Hi all F150 experts... I have a 94 F150 with 290k miles. I can feel auto transmission starting to go. Not sure how long the engine will last either.

Would you rebuild moter and trans or replace?

I have always wondered if they make the same inline 6 motor for this truck? I love this motor.

Can you please let me know my options. Thank you

It all depends on what your future plans are for your truck. Do you plan on keeping it for a long, long time? Or just a few years then trade to a newer truck?

290,000 is good service. Personally I'd shop for a low mileage 4.9 to stuff in there.
Unless you're planning to go through the truck from one end to the other you could get into the position where you've got a brand new engine and transmission in a truck that's already gone further than it was ever really designed to go.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.... but there are a lot of other things on the truck that have done their job a lot of times and other things may start to go.
