I always thought it was 92 but lately I have heard as early as 89. Best way to find out is to look at the doorjam sticker with the VIN and identify the transmisson code. Or crawl under the truck and identify the bolt pattern/number and compare to online diagrams.

1992. The reason I know, is when I inquired on rebuild cost for my 1991, 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission, they told me around $850. He said I was lucky it was a 1991 because Ford went to the electronic transmission in 1992. And those were more to rebuild.

A bit more light on this now:

They put the AODE and the E4OD in the same years of truck, I don't know how they decided which went where, but my 94 had the AODE.
