The pictures would be awesome to have, and when you put the GT40P heads on your motor where did you route your EGR? Or did you just block it off, I've heard mixed feelings about that? I was just going to route it to the y-pipe before my cat.

Are there any headers that will bolt to my stock y-pipe and fit with the GT40P heads? I wanted to go headers sometime, but $$$ is scarce so when I'm trying to only pay for what I need. What would be cheaper, longtube/shorty headers or make the explorer manifolds work?

Actually, looking around I guess the ford racing shorties on summit for $313 are my best bet? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-9430-t50
From looking around, people say they'll fit to my stock y-pipe which is a huge plus if they really do. No point in making the explorer manifolds work for $200-300 if I can just buy a set of headers that'll bolt straight up to everything for $320...

Thanks!

First thing that catches my attention is firing order difference and does the explorer cam even have a gear on it for the distributor? If you dont have emissions block the egr, not worth messing with.

Yeah, firing order will be a simple plug wire reroute since it's all batch-fire it doesn't affect anything. From looking all over the Internet, the explorer roller cam (same as the 5.8 roller cam) does have a gear on it for the distributor so that's all good.

West Virginia doesn't have emissions, but I've heard mixed things about not using the EGR system. How would I even go about blocking it off?

Thanks!

You will be using intake from the 90 correct? If so the egr comes from the lower intake, so that wont be a problem. The gt40p heads have no air ports for the air pump, seems like you are confusing air system and egr. What I did with the same situation was to remove thermactor valves, plug the vacuum but left the electronics plugged in. I routed a line from the air pump to the cat. In my case it was easier to leave the smog stuff intact.

You're correct, I was confusing the air system and the egr! Thank you for the correction! That's what I meant about routing to the y-pipe since the gt40ps have no port for them. So I was correct on that being the best option, right?

Yes, I am going to be using the stock truck intake. I don't see any reason to go to the GT40 intake manifold and TB. Hopefully the money I can sell the GT40 intake manifold and TB for will buy some more goodies for my truck.

Thanks!

They sell a kit to lengthen the air line when you install a new cat. I used that and the existing pipe to reroute the air line to the cat. I forgot to mention, I'd put a new timing chain on the list of parts. My egr is installed but I put a block out plate under it. Its for emmissions not performance.

Should be a nice upgrade once you get it going.

What are the intervals for timing chains, mileage wise? Can you provide a link to the kit so I don't go off and buy the wrong thing on a whim please ? I was planning on swapping on GT40P heads on my original motor as an upgrade but then it went boom . So I figured since I'm buying a motor, why not buy a GT40 full roller? Should be a big jump in power, hoping for a little more mpgs too...

Thanks!

Alright, thanks for the advice! I'll look into getting a new timing chain, and the tubes for sure. It'll be nice when I get this thing up and running again!
