Can anyone tell me what years and/or models are compatible with the engine and transmission in my truck?

I need to find both but I'm starting with the transmission for now.

1990 F150 Xlt Lariat
EFI
RWD
5.8L 351w

Reason being, is I'm having trouble finding the same year at the moment.

Any 300/4.9L or 302/5.0L transmission will fit. Year doesn't matter for fitment, but might matter for electronics. What transmission are you looking to go with?

Thanks for the info. I wonder if a transmission from an F250 would work?

I'm looking for the same year if possible but it has a 1991 transmission in it at the moment but it's junk thanks to a mechanic who screwed me over. So that's my first step in getting it back on the road.

I'm pretty sure the original was an E40D transmission? So electronics might be an issue if I went with a different one I'm not sure.

The 89-94 E4OD would be a direct fit. The 95-97 E4OD has a different electronic setup and would require you to do some modifications. The E4OD transmission has a 20 bolt pan if you need to identify it.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what years were compatible with my 1990. So really, I could put a engine and tranny from a 1994 into it?

Yes you could. The '94 E4OD will work just fine.

You may have some issues with the 94 engine though, not positive on what all needs to be done but I know there were some changes in 92 that need to be accounted for, you can either research it or wait for someone else to chime in. You may get more answers in the regular 87-96 instead of this sub-forum.
