1987 F150 300 4spd transmission noise
Howdy folks,
My 1987 Ford F150 300 six with a 4 speed transmission is making a noise whenever the clutch is all the way out while driving down the road. It sounds a little bit like a cricket is chirping loudly somewhere.
If the clutch pedal is pressed in just a half an inch (not enough to disengage the clutch), the noise disappears.
What could the problem be?
Thanks!

A bad throwout bearing will howl when the clutch pedal is pressed down. That is when a throwout bearing is doing it's work, releasing the clutch disc. What must be happening is the throwout bearing is rattling against the pressure plate. I would guess there may be a spring missing that is supposed to hold the throwout bearing release arm back slightly.
I would first crawl under the truck and look things over by the slave cylinder. Then go to the Ford garage and look at the parts layout or ask the parts man about some sort of spring. If no missing spring I would suspect something worn with the release arm.
