1987 4 spd, 4x4, Hub assembly
Well where do I start? I bought a 87 a couple months ago, long story short, I replace the upper and lower ball joints on the driver side and in a haste didn't lay out how the hub parts went back together...well I thought I'd take the other side off to grease and show me how to put the other one back together and what do you know? They are different hubs? The driver side has screws you take out and the locking switch comes off and such, the other side has no screws but one in the end of the switch. Any help would be great..Oh I also had a hard time getting the correct rotor for the drivers side, They said the one they matched to mine was showing up as an automatic hub?
Sorry if I'm not clear, I am a do it your selfer trying to save money.

Somebody's done some mixing and matching - the Dana 44 was pretty similar for a lot of years.
If you could figure out which hub is correct for your year, then get one of them for the other side.
For sure they changed the steering knuckle about 95 when they changed to bolt on calipers and they had different rotors, but the main case of the D44 stayed the same.

The first pic is the one where I put new rotor on, the second is the other side. The one taken apart had screws holding the 4wd lock switch on and the one on the other side does not.
My main mission at the moment is what order do the hub assembly on the one taken apart go back together, I'm a little stumped as there are so many different diagrams showing different types of hubs, this one only had one spring in it.

From what I can tell - you have what is called the 'Top Hat' hub, offered only in '87 and early '88... http://broncozone.com/topic/20190-changing-hubs/
Not a great diagram, but hope it helps - http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/4...gehublocks.jpg

Thanks a bunch, yes I think the passenger hub is the original 87 hub. I have an 92 model parts truck with automatic locking hubs, would those swap over easy to the 87 or would I have to change a bunch of stuff?
Thanks for all you guys help on this.

I suppose it depends on what you define as 'easy', but the swap apparently can be done, according to this source - "To convert your 87-88 Bronco to the "standard" hubs you'll need to swap all the parts from the spindle out from a Bronco or F-150." from http://web.archive.org/web/200102181.../bbfaq.html#11
