Rear brakes locking up

Rear brakes locking up
Hey all, as the title says, they are locking up. Was driving the other day, noticed my emergency brake and abs lights went off. The brake pedal got real stiff and noticed a significant "power loss" next thing i knew on the way home, my brakes were smoking. So, after i loosened up the auto adjustment screw, i made it home. Took the drum off and noticed the cylinders were leaking, so replaced them. I noticed that the auto adjustment screw was not making contact with the adjustment lever leaving the screw free and found that odd. Anyway, the brakes worked fine until today when i noticed the "loss of power" again, looked at the brakes and guess what..the brakes are HOT. Anyone have any suggestions? ? Im thinking the auto tensioner system is iut of whack somehow....its a 1992 f150 and shoes with springs we r replaced about 3 months ago along with cylinders day before yesterday.... help please

Your master(brake) cylinder, or the rear ABS system wouldn't be messing up not allowing the brake fluid to release back? I wonder what would happen if, when the brakes tighten up, you loosened one of the bleeder screws on the rear brake cylinders? Just a thought.

When the e-brake and abs lights light at the same time it's often something happening at the master cylinder (low fluid or stuck at the bottom float).
It doesn't really sound like your rear brakes are installed correctly though from what you said about things not being in contact properly.
Other things that can cause lock up are e-brake cables seizing or flex line internally collapsing to add to what 88xlt said.

Its the middle of my woorkweek so ibhavent messed with it much, but had a thought. I took out the fuse for the abs hoping it would disable the abs system. Took the truck out for a while but i had the same results. So in theory, the rabs is not the problem, right? Im thinking it may be either the rear brake hose or the master cylinder. Im still going to get the brakes inspected by a pro..

Hey all, sorry its been a while but i hate it when im looking up a problem on the forums and the original poster doesnt leave a solution or end result..
So i took it to an actual mechanic shop, had the shoes replaced, adjusted and had the rear brake flex line replaced and all is well now. I have put on several miles now without a problem. So in conclusion, i believe it was the flex line that had deteriorated. Thank for the help guys
