Default Need advice: just installed rough country and its sagging

Hello there,

newbie in the forum. I'm a computer guy who like to wrench in is spare time. I've decided to try to install a 4 inches lift kit on an old 1991 F150 (2WD, xlt long bed) truck I got for almost nothing. I'm a rookie and i wanted to learn, so please don't be too harsh!

I've taken a slew of picture, and you can see that the front suspension is clearly lower of a good 3/4" causing the wheels to feel like a gorilla is sitting on the hood.

I contacted rough country who sent me another set of coils (btw, the whole kit is brand new) and I get the same result.

Can you guys comment whether I'm missing something? I have not installed my swaybar yet as I wanted to try without first.

thanks!

They're still there. They're just embedded. Are you using a computer or are you mobile?

The springs definitely don't look like they are sitting right - almost like one or both of them is upside down. Also make sure you used the right hole for the I-beam drop brackets - those rough country kits use the same brackets for the 4" and 6" lifts and each kit uses a different hole in the bracket.

thanks sir. I moved the coil yesterday (pictures taken a bit before) and made sure they were not upside down (one of them was). They sit well now. As for the hole, I did used the upper one. I'm just wondering if the coil may not be too way or something... ? Even with coils sitting well, front end still looks saggy.

at this stage I was thinking of adding a coil spacer.

One end of the coil should have 2" or so that is almost perfectly straight - that is the part that goes at the top in the retainer.

When I installed my springs it was a bit of a pain to get them to sit right. I finally figured out the best way was to remove all tension from the spring by lowering the axle, disconnect the top retaining bracket and keep the nut and coil retainer loosely attached at the bottom. Then jack the axle back up just enough to get the top to sit properly for the upper retainer bracket. Attach the bracket, get the bottom situated where you want it, then jack the axle up to compress the spring before you tighten the lower nut. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get the coil to stay where you want it.
