Default 2 pc inner hub seal

Hi guys, I'm putting a 96 4x4 Dana into a 93 4x2.

All is going well so far.

I am trying to install the 2 piece inner hub seal (MasterPro PT710430). I have the hub piece installed but can't decide which way the other piece should fit.

Does the smaller piece install on the spindle? If installed this way, it does tightly slide onto the spindle but there is a small interference with the hub. This will have the spindle piece (non rotating) rubbing against the metal outer ring of the hub seal (rotating).

Is this correct?

If I install it with the smaller piece facing out, the spindle piece will rub against the rubber part of the hub seal. I do not think this is correct.

Advice appreciated.

Default Pictures are worth 1,000 words, right?

This is how the seal is currently on the spindle.

I don't know if you can tell from that which way they were sitting on there.

What did you end up doing?

I have a 1996 F150 and have been to every autopart store including the dealership and can not find that seal. No one has it and they keep showing me pictures that don't match what I pulled off.

Anyone know if that used to be a 1 piece seal? Mine was only one piece. I don't know what to order because I've found about 50 choices.

2 seals. Have the seals here, but I don't have the spindles to try them on. But if you put it one way, you have metal on metal with the 2 seals touching. The other way, you have rubber on metal. I don't think metal on metal would be good there, rubber on metal makes more sense.
Try it that way and see if it seems to fit right.
Sorry I can't be more help, I never really looked at them till you brought it up. I don't have the spindles out to look at now, but I know when you put them on right, it makes sense.

The seal I have is the MasterPro PT710430.

I put it together rubber against metal. That made the most sense.

I have been having trouble tightening the lower ball joint on the passenger side. Can't hold the shaft tight enough to tighten the nut.

I found a place today that had both seals in stock. I put them together like your first and second picture.

I always jack up the suspension under the lower ball joint to stop the spinning. Really lift it and put all the weight on that point.

You should also start with the bottom ball joint. You're supposed to torque it to something like 35, torque the top to 100, then back to bottom and torque to 111.
