Tin can. Is it vacuum related?
Im a newbie. Just picked up a EB super cab. In the engine bay, I am Curious as to what the large black tin can with the a red and a black plastic hose that run backside of the efi manifold. It sits on the passenger fender well halfway between the freon tank and the battery. 95 5.8L. The red hose is severed near the engine block.

The soup can is a vacuum reservoir. The red plastic line is a vacuum hose.
Sounds like you should spend an hour or so replacing all the vacuum lines as they are getting old and brittle.
You can just use regular rubber vacuum line - available at most parts stores by the foot.

Tree has 4 lines outgoing instead of 3
I noticed that my vacuum tree over the intake manifold has four lines going out. Of course, it's broken and it's sort of a maze from probably what I think is somebody doing a poor job of rigging this, but with that said, is there any reason why I should have four outgoing libes from the tree instead of the documented 3?

the vacuum reservoir was used to maintain vacuum controlled components for instances when the vacuum from the manifold dropped. things like cabin air control switches
i dont even use the vacuum tree on the firewall anymore, most of the stuff that used it in my rig got ganked by the previous owner

Just about all my vacuum lines were cracked or broken. I pieced back together, and am going to post a picture that defines what I did becuase there are lines that do not show up on any diagram I have seen thus far lol.
