switching alternator, do i need new regulator????

Post switching alternator, do i need new regulator????
so i wanna exchange my slowly dying alternator for a new bigger one.. is there anything else i should do to while im at it? such as new regulator which i believe is seperate. and could i just get a new alternator with built in regulator and get rid of old stock regulator?
