Smog

The smog pump and air injection system are an emissions control device. Basically, on cold starts the smog pump pumps fresh air in to the exhaust system to heat up the catalytic converters faster to help reduce emissions. It is possible to take the system off but i have heard it is not easy or fun. I considered doing it to my truck but i have not yet. If you do take it off you will definitely need a shorter serpentine belt. I'm sure others can comment on this and i know there are threads about this somewhere on here.

There are quite a few threads regarding this. I have no CATS on my 89 5.0 and was debating on getting rid of the smog pump. I forget which size belt you need to delete it. You also have to plug the holes in the back of the heads. I believe they make a delete pulley for it too someplace.

Full disclosure: I am the type that keeps the emissions stuff on. With this being said.......
My question here is why do you need to delete it? Is it because you think it's killing HP or is the part bad and it's just best to go without?
