Default Short or long tube headers

If I start to modify my '91 5.0 I'd like to do headers with true duel exhaust. I have no idea about the goods or the bads of either. My goals for now are looks, sound, costs. I may do engine mods in the future. What are some of the things I should keep in mind? I don't want to do anything too counter productive. I might be able to get a unused set of Pace Setter shorty headers for $100.

Long tube headers are normally better. they are better designed to "direct" the exhaust waves and cause less back pressure.
