Question about the 5.0
Looking to get a used 150 in the next few months. Pushrod's are a bit new to me as I've always grew up with OHC. I've researched enough to get that they "can" be easier to maintain because of less moving parts, but from you guys, how is the reliability? I know the pre-97 powertrains have a tendancy of being called bulletproof, but just wanted to hear some firsthand opinions.
Thoughts?

Springer Spaniels Rule
Pushrod engines are the most durable, they are more forgiving if something breaks, no special tools to work on them, easier to play with timing, but they do have some drawbacks over the ohc, a distributor, pushrods, supposedly less efficient, and as far as economy, there are many pushrod engines with more economy and power over an ohc engine, personally I would take a pushrod motor over an ohc, there is alot more you can do to a pushrod engine to get more power and not spend a fortune.

i can tell you that if you're getting something used that is as old as one of these trucks i'd make sure its been taken care of. If it has you shouldn't have a problem at all. i have 230k on my 1995 5.0 and (knock on wood) its running great. Just make sure to take care of it as you should with any engine and you'll be more than happy with it's reliability.
