Hey all, heard a new sound from my truck this morning, a very loud metallic clunk or knock while idling. Its not consistent but occurs in idle and at speed. I noticed the belt tensioner flexes back and forth when the knock happens. It's very loud, loud enough to hear it inside the house. Could it be the tensioner?

Yup, it was the tensioner. The indexing post behind the tensioner broke allowing the belt to be very loose yet still have the "load range" still appear to be in spec.

You got off cheap on that one. Usually noises you can hear from inside the house are really, really expensive.
