loss of power poor idle and I'm gonna lose my job
A few weeks back on my to work my 93 f150 2wd 5.0 auto with 220k suffered a total loss of power on the interstate and died when I pulled off and let off the throttle. It refired slowly then didn't do it again for some time.
Now it still has no power, I have to feather the throttle to keep it from backfiring through the intake and it can very slowly accelerate up to speed. It also idles very rough (cruises fine as im not going up a hill) and wont fire up if parked over a weekend, just turns and turns til I give it a shot of ether. The fuel pumps in either tank will turn on when I turn the key but don't shut back off after a few seconds. I hollowed out the cat (does it have two or is the back one a muffler?). The gas in either tank was purchased at different stations, the fuel rail reads 30psi and doesn't leak back down when shut off. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor seem ok. Hollowed out the smog pump a few months back (they are not kidding when they say don't hit them with a hammer) and that's why my first thought was to hollow the cat. My MPG has been cut by more than half and you can smell foulness in the exhaust when you stop. At a loss what to check next, not losing water so I don't suspect a head gasket.
