Default Gt40 heads on 351w

I'm looking to squeeze same extra hp and torque out of my 96 351w e4od transmission. Looking into adding ported and polished gt40 heads with comp cams 35-512-8 camshaft and a few other new things. Want too know if the heads just bolt on and if my stock intake and headmen headers would work and any other ideas trucks used for mud bogs. Thanks

Gt40 should be bolt on with existing parts.
Gt40P would probably cause issues with your headers.

Ones I've seen had a raised casting at the exhaust manifold area (rear on the left one, front on the right one) that said "GT40".

I'm pretty sure he will need to drill them out because the head bolts are bigger for a 351.

I was told they said gt40 on them and also about them needing too be drilled out.

You guys happen too know if the valve springs are the same as e7? I'm talking to a rep. From comp cams he said 35-512-8 cam shaft would work with my stick computer

I think the valve springs are different but I'm not 100% sure. Also to answer your above question, the 5.0 was available in the explorer from 1996-2001. Between 1996 and 1997.5 they had the gt40 heads which have 3 raised bars cast on the back of the cylinder head. After 1997.5 they had the gt40p heads which have 2 main differences. The first is the combustion chamber size is slightly smaller, and also the exhaust valve is smaller. The gt40p heads have 4 raised bars cast into the back of them. Hope this helps.

This is the reason I ask about the spring sizes fitting on the gt40 heads.

All explorers with the 5.0 had gt40p heads. The gt40 heads came on 93-95 Cobras and early lightning trucks. They can be identified by 3 raised bars in the front of the head.
