I have a 1994 F 150 dual fuel tank truck. I have to get to the front tank to change the fuel pump. What's easiest way to do it? Removing the bed or going from underneath? Thanks.

If you have a means of lifting the bed (safely), thats the way to go. Just don't forget to disconnect all the tail light and trailer plug wires. Also the fuel filler and vent hose.

I don't have the means to do it but is it an easier way to get to that tank?

I'm getting ready to do the same thing. Everyone I've talked to said take bed off if you can. Do you have someone who can help you? 2 guys can lift the bed off once it's unbolted. You could set it on boards or even in the yard.

If you're going to man-handle the bed off the truck, get a pair of saw horses and couple 2x4's and make a platform to set it on. Yes two strong men can lift it off, but if you set it on the ground you'll need to recruit more help to pick it up again. I've done the two-man lift but would aviod it if possible.

If you are going to remove the bed to change the fuel pump, first watch a you tube video of a guy from Arkansas doing one on a Chevy truck. He took out the bolts in the bed on the drivers side and loosened the ones on the passenger side,lifted the bed up on the drivers side and put a 2x4 in to hold the bed up about a foot high and changed the fuel pump. Looked easy, I'll see if I can find the video.

I changed both tanks fuel pumps about 2 months ago and I dropped both tanks to do mine. The rear was a royal pain the rear But I thought the front tank was pretty easy. I had my fuel down to empty before starting though. Whichever way you go good luck with it.

I doubt that you would want to do this but I went to go look at a GMC pickup before I bought my f150 and the guy literally cut a hole in the bed and put like a hinge on it to get at his fuel pump. I have never seen anything like it but it was funny to see. Maybe a last resort if you need it but i would never do that.

Removed my Flare side bed to replace mine.. very easy.. if the bed bolts are really corroded... just cut them off and replace.

I tear trucks down all the time. Everything is much easier with the body out of the way.
But it's not the end of the world to just drop the tank, fix what's wrong and put it back up.

Years ago (MANY) I had a Ford Courier and it actually had a removable panel in the bed to access the sender/pump assembly.
