Default Dad always said, "check the simple things first son"

The F-150 was getting worse than normal gas mileage, performance was down and the exhaust was smelling unusually strong. So I figured the catalytic converter was going out. Took it to the shop, mechanic #1 hooked the laptop up and said the engine is fine running smooth no problems there. So off to the muffler shop I go. Muffler shop checked the converter and said " no problems in the exhaust system." Might be the air pump, get that checked out." Remembering what Dad used to say, I stopped at the local auto parts store bought some throttle body cleaner and a fuel filter. I had recently replaced the plugs and wires and air filter so didn't need those. After replacing the fuel filter (which was extremely dirty) and cleaning the carbon out of the throttle body (it was very dirty as well) the old F-150 is back! Need to remember what the old man told me. Funny that the older I get the smarter he gets.
