Post Big Block or small block!?

Hey guys, My '96 f150 just rolled 192,000 miles on the original everything. Once it rolls 200k im putting a new motor in it no matter what, because this one is ticking now because with this many miles she doesnt like the highway everyday anymore. So anyway my question is, should i get a 351, 302, or 460. i mean i would love to have the power of a 460, or should i buy a 302 or 351 and build it up a little bit? I was honestly thinking a 460 with a valve job and cam and roller rockers and i'd be more then happy. pushing some big horses!? But then again i don't know. i can find any of the 3 on craigslist anywhere between 150-500 bucks. So help me please guys

Thank you,
Zac

IMHO, if you go 460, plan on dropping a lot of money. Not only will some sort of refreshing be needed, but you will also need to buy a transmission, computer, wire harness, bigger radiator among other various exhaust parts.

302 can be found in a lot of cars, trucks and vans. Plenty of parts on the market to squeeze 300 hp and sizable torque. 351W will give you a torque advantage off the bat and use almost every part a 302 uses to make power.

My money is either on a stroker 302 or a 351w.

Very true about the extra cost for the 460. No matter what I do I'm going to need a new tranny because my 5 speed is very tired 3rd and 4th synchros are like gone. But a 351 can use the same comp and everything that's already in the truck

Hi Zac,
You probably have a Mazda box in your F150. Look for a ZF with a small block bolt pattern if your staying with a five speed. My mazda is still alive and well after 242k miles but its behind a 300.
Good luck with the swap

I reallyyyyy wanted to go big block, but it just wasn't in the card. I would need to change out alot more stuff than compared to the 351 I bought. Plus I found this at a good deal I paid 325 and it can with a NIB water pump
