My dad is giving me his 93 F150 with the 4.9 and manual transmission. This truck is basically gonna be a hunting/beater truck. I would like to swap to a v-8. What all is needed to swap from the 4.9 to a 5.0 or 5.8?

The 4.9 has pretty good low end torque for going up hills and going over rocks, if it runs I don`t think I would change engines just for a beater/hunting rig.

Too much is need to swap over. Either sell it to get what you want, or be happy with what you have.

Keep the 4.9, it'll outlast both you and the frame it sits in
