Default 351W rebuild advice?

I figure a lot of owners have rebuilt/replaced their 351w. Mine is using oil pretty bad, and I'm looking at a crate engine with a hp and torque bump. But there are dozens of suppliers out there, and I'd like some feedback - anybody have a recommended supplier? Anybody have good luck with a specific rv cam? Towing is my main need for more torque...

Default 1991 351w

Just passing thru, I'm a Bronco owner. 1991 351W with Edelbrock Performer package, cam, heads, intake, 56mm TBI, headers. Mallory ignition, Gibson cat-back. E4OD transmission with TCI torque converter. 4.88 gears with ARB air lockers front and rear and 31" All Terrains. I live in San Diego, CA and tow a 7500#, 31' travel trailer. I built it this way for the purpose of towing up the grades at a good speed of 45-50mph fully loaded. 55mph speed limit in CA and I bump it up to 65mph on the open roads. I leave it in OD and let the computer make the shift changes. Highway RPM's at 55 is 2100 and around 2500 at 65mph. When it downshifts into 3rd, 2400 rpm at 45 mph and 3000rpm at 55mph. Love the engine. Hope this helps.

Not sure about good suppliers as i've always built my own but as far as cams go I currently have a 351W bored .040 over with some heads and a Lunati Voodoo 10350702 cam. I couldn't ask for a better cam for my truck. I tow my boat and race cars a LOT with it and it's got all the torque that I could ask for and more. I went through four different cam grinds before I found one that had the torque curve that I was looking for. It starts pulling hard at around 1500 or so and keeps pulling as long as I keep my foot in it. Don't remember the exact lift and duration but it's perfect for a 4x4/RV cam.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the input. Turns out my oil leak was an intake manifold seal, so maybe even with 140K miles I can take some time to plan a build. So far I've learned that 1992 does not have a mass air flow sensor in the efi, and replacing the efi with a carb can mess up the trans shifting from the ecu. So options are going all the way with a separate trans ecu and carb, which lets you build a monster. Or going relatively mild with an rv cam, headers, which still gives you about a 20% boost. Seems for many that's more than enough.
Either way, it's a great truck and I plan on running it a long time. Thanks again.
