302 rebuild
Hey im bout to do my first rebuild on my 302 i pulled from my 1990 f150. I plan on keepin it stock since im on a budget but wouldnt mind cheap (or should i say budget friendly)upgrades. Any tips or recommended suggestions would be really helpful. Should i do anything special when i strip down the block or anything. The motor has been rebuilt before but idk when that was and i had a rod knock so i decided to pull it and rebuild it. Thanks guys

Have it professionally cleaned and checked for cracks. Same with the heads. It's not that expensive. And agreed about the cam swap. Go to a roller cam.
The things you can do yourself require a dremel and some patience. Port match your intake to the heads. All you have to do is clean up the rough edges for improved airflow. You don't need to get crazy with the grinding either. Get a quality seal/gasket kit from the get go. No need to have leaks after you rebuilt it. Straighten out all of the covers (valve, timing, and oil pan). Put in new freeze plugs after it comes back from the shop, take them out before you send it to be cleaned. Use a quality high-temp paint to paint the block and accessories.
