Yeah, they usually come off the shelf 10 to 20 pounds over, which could really mess something up. They don't hold calibration well either.

I talked to a tech in a calibration lab. He said he has tested many Harbor Freugh torque wrenches and found them to be accurate. I bought an inch pound HF 10 years ago to pit cams in a Harley. I borroweded a buddy's Snap On to check it and found the HF was accurate.

I guess they made them better 10 years ago. I've returned three of them after having my local automotive college check them out with their $5000 calibration machine. They would all deviate at least +/- 10 lbs after a week of moderate use (3/8" drive).
