Default Truck surges when accelerating hard

Ok so I noticed that when I accelerate hard my truck surges as if its not getting enough gas or spark. Truck is still drivable but I need to figure out what this is before it gets worse. Also should there always be pressure at the fuel rail even when the truck is off. The truck is a 1989 Ford f150 xlt with the inline 6 5speed manual. I use this truck for work please help.

this is efi right? i dont know about the fuel rail but on the early computerized trucks they have a "limp home" mode, which it defaults to if a sensor isnt responding correctly, and an intermittent signal could be causing this. in particular, i would look at the oxygen sensor, make sure the wire isnt burnt from the exhaust. i dont think theres any other way to really test it, but disconnect the sensor and see if you notice any performance difference, if it runs as you expect normally then its prolly gone bad. you can also go to a parts store and borrow a code reader to pull codes
