Anyone who thinks the 302 better than the 300 must be crazy! The 300s torque is outta this world! The longevity of this motor can't even be compared to. I don't dislike the 302, but by all means, prior to 97 I wouldn't have any other motor in my Ford. The power that comes with a 300 is sick! I pulled a 318 V-8 Dodge 4x4 with my 2x4 300 Inline-6. Not bragging about the clutch I had to put in it about a month later from doing it, but I proved my point about the power of that motor! Granny Low in a 300 would be more powerful than 1st gear in a 4.6 or 5.4. The gas mileage maybe horrible, but I wouldn't trade it for the power. Not to be rude, but anyone who has the nerve to call a 300 gutless, must not know Ford Trucks.

189,788 miles to be exact on my 95 300. Wouldnt take it out right now for one of the best 302's new in a crate. Just my opinion. Best of it is i get about 18 mile per gallon in it. Wish I could say the same for Either of the 302's I've had. Truck is driven very little through the winter but during the summer months especially the last couple years, I go sometimes all summer and never unhitch my 6'x10' 1500lb trailer loaded with 2 huge mowers, weedeaters, etc and have had several trucks in the past that couldn't hold ol' red a light towing that load around as far as miles per gallon and torque goes.

300 for off roading no question. Touqe comes in low in the rpm range 4 in bore 3.98 stroke makes it a beast of a motor

My 93 302 never let me down. Just kept up regular maintenance on it. I knew some people who had the 300 and they didn't have any issues

GO 300-6 if you have the head off defiantly port it. On some of them the ports don't line up it makes big difference

If i was looking to buy and all things being equal, condition, mileage and so forth i would go 6. Its a bit easier to work on and can get great fuel economy when driven carefully. I'm not sure if I'd go right to gutless, but my 6 can do 0 to 60 in a mind blowing 15 seconds.

I'm sure someone can chime in about how it can tow this or that and made to run a 10 second qtr, but that's not the run of the mill 6. Its a reliable turtle.
