Default Engine swap

i have a 1992 f150 straight w/ manual trans that gets horrible mpg. I am entertaining the idea of putting a mustang 3.8 v6 in it but honestly don't know enough to be sure that this would work or if it would be a good idea. So here are my questions: Will it fit with the trans I have now? Will it give me better mpg? How difficult will this be?

Define horrible MPG....

Because I see no good coming from your idea right now. Transplanting a motor designed for a vehicle that is at least 1000-1500 lbs lighter than your current truck and thinking it'll improve MPG?

FYI, ford did put the 3.8 in pickups, 82-83 f100s. 19% of 82 f100 came with it and 12% 83s. do you know how many of those are still in the trucks? 17. you know why? because they were absolute junk and couldnt hold up in a RCSB 2wd truck.

so I have to ask, are you sure this is an option you want to consider?

10 mpg city and maybe 12 highway. Do you think there is a better engine out there for this truck?

You got the best gas engine Ford ever made. Fix what's wrong and should get 18-20 highway easy.
