I just assembled my 1989 4.9 300-6. on initial start up the engine kicks back after cranking for a short time. I've messed with the timing and a little it kicks back when have the timing set to spec but if i retard the timing it will stop kicking back but wont fire. I am running 19 lb injectors instead of the 12 that are stock but i know that a lot of people have done that and not had problems. If any one has an answer that would save me some trouble shooting time it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your timing is off.

You disconnected the SPOUT connector when you set your timing right?
