Okay 200 dollars later, two dudes from the repair shop came out and a Ford dealer technician came out on a separate time after work, could not free the fuel fittings. It was a hundred each to get them to come to my near house and "try, yeah, we can get 'em off we do it all the time." What the hell ever.

Tried to go another route. Reattached the muffler pipes to the exhaust manifolds, bolted off the lower intake and exhaust manifolds, pulled them back leaving the fuel lines attached. Lower intake manifold came off broken in pieces, the rear end of the last port to the back has broken and come off. The whole thing is now supported by bricks on the bottom. Will have to replace the lower intake, but cannot disassemble the EGR pipe thing, it is frozen to the rear exhaust. Since it is run through the lower intake, I can't remove any of it.

Going to try to pull the head off tomorrow, but at this point, since the EGR pipe will likely have to be cut according to the Ford guy to remove the lower intake, is it even worth it?

Do I need to be asking where is a good place to buy used engines?

I tried to attach a picture of my progress but each time I click on attach something called "Windows Live Quicktime" crashes.

First of all, if you can't get the lines off there then disconnect them further down and pull out the whole line. Feed will be at the filter, return at the DFR. They have duck bill clips there, pop it out pop it off. Second, I hope you pulled the passenger side inner fender so you can get at all the bolts and the pipe.

My lower intake was busted too, although not as bad as yours sounds.

Passenger side inner finder and tire removed... that does sound like it would make it a lot easier! That is a good idea.

So, an update.

Got the head out, got the EGR tube thingy to the back exhaust manifold removed, everything taken apart, even the slow disconnect fittings using the Ford tool, two screwdrivers, and a credit card.

The head goes to the shop tomorrow morning, and the following will be replaced:

Lower Intake
Water Pump
Thermostat
Radiator
Spark Plugs
All Gaskets
Vacuum Lines that are crappy
One pushrod

I will keep the thread updated. Head actually looks really good, just one slightly bent pushrod.

Anything you guys think I should watch out for? Thanks for all the tips.

Just make sure the head isn't cracked.

Update. The head is cracked on the exhaust side. They didn't catch it with the Magnaflux, it just wouldn't pas the vacuum test they do on it. Still waiting to hear from the shop if they will rebuild it or not, they told me they don't repair gasoline heads anymore since they are "so cheap these days." But this one is $330 minimum rebuilt at the parts store, so they are going to see if they could fix it.

Hope to have an answer soon. I am planning on making a make shift engine lift out of two dudes and a 2x4, and when a new head is obtained, lowering the head/lower intake/both exhaust manifolds down on the motor as an assembled piece.

I am going to be picking up a few extra shifts if I can to offset the extra expense, but do you guys have a place that you get heads from? The guys at Auto Zone and O'Reilly's don't know if they can get one, its a try and see at the time.

They order the heads from an independent supplier, they should have it. I wouldn't bother trying to fix that one. I get them for $100 at the junkyards, changed mine twice. Just make sure the truck they get it from was a good running truck.

I just wanted to put out an update. I got the bad head back from the machine shop. They felt bad they wouldn't fix it so they cleaned up all the valves and brought them to me in a bag, and told me when I got a junkyard head to come back and if it was good, they would do a valve job on it and might be able to use some of it.

I actually lost my job of 4 years today, so I am not sure I am going to be able to invest the money to completing the job on it for a bit so updates might be slow if anyone was following this.

I have tracked down a junkyard head and the best priced one in the area is $150, and they guarantee that it is rebuild-able.

I would say that's a good price. I get better pricing because I shop there often.
